  1. 1.      GENERAL INFORMATION:

                  Background /brief introduct

Community Empowerment and Development Agency (CEDA) was registered as an indigenous non-governmental organization (NGO) in 1994 with the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning (MODEP now (MOFED), Sierra Leone and commenced micro-credit services in 2002 in Valunia Chiefdom of Bo District in Southern Province. Initially, it focused on Agricultural activities and Gender Empowerment in Bo District. The Programme was initially “Lunia Agriculture and Rural Development Project” (LARDEP). LARDEP went through restructuring, building up its institutional capacity to expand its services to cater for more beneficiaries and communities; meeting the demands of the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning for registration as a National Non-Governmental Organization. LARDEP, with the consent of the Board and members, was re-named Community Empowerment & Development Agency (CEDA). It worked with a government program- Social Action for Poverty Alleviation (SAPA). SAPA supported CEDA to start micro-credit program for the rural poor, especially women, in micro credit/entrepreneurship. With its headquarters in Bo, CEDA is a product of an initial rural development effort focusing on activities in the rural areas of Bo, Moyamba, Pejuhun and Bonthe Districts. It has now emerged to become a growing microfinance institution, delivering micro credit and non- financial services in several rural chiefdoms in Bo, Moyamba, Pejuhun and Bonthe Districts in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone and intends to expand its outreach activities to neighboring districts. As at December 31st 2010 our outstanding loan portfolio was 1,401,138,021.94 and the portfolio at risk (PAR) was 3.8%, with 6,575 active clients.
